Republican Marc Holtzman made some odd off-the-cuff remarks about Denver and Mayor John Hickenlooper two days ago, and it has apparently cost him some support. From The Denver Post:
Former City Councilman Ed Thomas quit Republican Marc Holtzman’s gubernatorial campaign committee Tuesday after Holtzman called Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper a “show horse” who was running a “rogue city.”
Thomas, who said he had felt Holtzman represented a “fresh voice” until he crossed the line Monday, also demanded that Holtzman apologize to the mayor and the city of Denver. “I spent nine years of my professional life developing parts of what you describe as a ‘rogue city,”‘ Thomas wrote in a letter to Holtzman. “The gratuitous insults directed at John Hickenlooper and his administration were unfortunate and unnecessary.”
Holtzman, through his campaign manager Dick Leggitt, said he wouldn’t apologize. “Absolutely not. Marc calls them as he sees them,” Leggitt said. “We’re in the process of starting a revolution, and we understand that some people are getting off the train as it goes down the tracks.”
That last comment by Leggitt is a bit strange. Holtzman is trying to build a campaign of an outsider, which is the right strategy for him, but there’s a fine line between outsider and weirdo, and they had better be careful about staying behind it.

You don’t win elections by turning off most of the people in the largest city in the state, even if a good sized minority agree that Denver is a “Rogue City,” which it is.
If MH is trying to win with John McCain’s “straight talk,” he’s forgotten one thing: He ain’t John McCain. And he’s already been caught fudging facts.
Why would MH bait Hick into the race with silly attacks at this point in the campaign. Might it have been smarter to wait until Hick had decided not to run or to run? MH hardly will scare Hick out of the race, but he might draw him into it.
Read all about it. Rich little snot nosed asshole uses daddy’s money to put his foot in his mouth. Good luck with the “revolution”.
People are leaving Holtzman’s campaign like rats from a sinking ship… his Larimer spokesman Ray Martinez jumped ship and introduced Beauprez and his Fort Collins announcement
I’m goin’ off the rails on a crazy train !
I really have to start reading Colorado Pols *first* – start my days off with some GOOD NEWS! LMAO
Holtzman’s statement looks like it’s turning in to an early contender for 2006 Colorado Rectal-Cranial Inversion maneuver of the year.
Holtzman is just windmilling now – fun to watch.
the road to waterloo continues for little marc bonaparte…..
Ah, Mark. I caught his act early on when he was trying to be an expert in technology. He opened with what he said was “a recent quote from Schopenhauer”, which I thought odd since he died in 1860. Shades of George W?
The 2003 JBC Staff notes, when the JBC was still firmly in the hands of the (R)s, called Holtzman’s efforts a failure and recommended the abolishment of his job and all of OIT.
If this guy doesn’t get it spoon fed to him, he can’t pull it off.
